MFA Research project and solo exhibition

My MFA research project, Seeing Depth: Perception and Phenomenology of Space, established the foundation of my practice by investigating how spatial perception is constructed through visual, material, and architectural encounters. Drawing on Gestalt theory and Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology, I developed the concept of perceived space—a mental field in which visual impressions are formed, held, and reorganised as the viewer moves through space.

Through drawing, wall-based constructions, and site-responsive installations, I created a series of perceptual tests exploring instability between figure and ground, surface and depth, and the thresholds where pictorial and physical space intersect. Derivatives (Articulate Project Space, 2025) expanded this inquiry across cardboard constructions, wood structures, installation components, and drawing. The exhibition demonstrated how perception, movement, and architectural context co-produce the spatial experience of the work.
